Dear Families of Honey Island Students,

 Welcome to our new school year , 2026-2027, where we are “Under Construction - Building Leaders and Lifelong Learners!”  I am Gina Troyer, your principal! I have been serving the students and community of Slidell now for 37 years and loving every minute of it!  My Assistant Principal this year is Hallie Taylor.  Mrs. Taylor has served Honey Island for the past two years as our Instructional Coach, and I am excited to be partnering with her this school year!  We are looking forward to getting to know all of our students and families, and working alongside you to help ensure our students grow to their full potential! We recognize that our students need support from both home and school so they can be successful, and our partnership will make a difference in each student’s education!

 

Some areas where you can help as a family include:

 

• Ensuring that your child gets enough rest, healthy eating, and play time,
• Helping your child to be responsible for materials and homework assignments,
• Having your child read daily to develop a love for reading,
• Encouraging your child to communicate what they are learning every day, and
• Promoting Leader in Me - the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” or as we say at Honey Island, the “7 Habits of the Hive!”

We also have an 8th Habit, “Find Your Voice,” and while our students are here, we will help them to find their voice through many different leadership activities and learning experiences across the curriculum.  We look forward to this new, “under construction” school year - getting to know our students and families!  I’d love feedback from you about what is important for your child while they are a Honey Island student.  I’d like to stay in close communication with my parent community, and I will be sending out quarterly newsletters this year.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions, concerns, and ideas!
