A Few Notes About Me:

My love of music began in sixth grade when I started playing the trumpet in the school band.

♫ I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Loyola University in 2000 with certification in both Instrumental and Vocal Music.

♫ I have been teaching music for the past 13 years (the past 5 years at Honey Island Elementary).

♫ I have taught classroom music, chorus, band, piano, voice, wind instruments, and percussion to students of all ages.

♫ I am married and have a 4 year old daughter and a 2 year old son.

Music Class Expectations

What do we do in music class?

Enter and exit the room calmly and quietly.

Follow directions.Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Use music materials appropriately.

Follow the CHAMPS Board.

Have fun!

There are a lot of music concepts that we cover in elementary music.  We learn note recognition, rhythm patterns, steady beat, proper singing voice, music history, how to play rhythm instruments correctly, music appreciation, and more.  We learn all of these things through listening activities, playing instruments, singing, movement, and using technology.  My goal is for my students to develop the basic music foundations that anyone would need to sing or play an instrument.

Singing Bees

The Singing Bees are Honey Island’s School Chorus.  Singing Bees are chosen from each 3rd grade class through an audition process. All 3rd graders will learn about the audition process during the first few weeks of school.  A letter and permission form will be sent home with details and audition dates.  Due to the large number of 3rd graders at Honey Island, only 3 to 4 students from each class will be selected to be a Singing Bee.  Selection is based on singing ability, school performance, and behavior.  Singing Bees rehearse during the school day and are expected to make up any classwork missed while attending Singing Bees.  The Singing Bees perform a Christmas Program, a Spring Musical, and at a few school functions throughout the school year.
